Digital front-end option for the ColorStream 10000 Flex

Digital front-end that connects your digital business with established workflows

The Océ PRISMA®colorworks Server, enabled by CREO™ Color Server Technology, is a digital front-end exclusively designed for Océ digital printing systems. It is a high-performance, high-end colour server based on the CREO Color Server flexible architecture, offering an extensive set of features that delivers excellent colour capability, speed, and the best value proposition for publishers, professional graphic arts and commercial printers. Based on JDF technology, it has been engineered for maximum connectivity with other workflow solutions such as Kodak Prinergy, Agfa :Apogee or Kodak Brisque software. With the Océ PRISMAcolorworks Server, it is a matter of a few clicks to integrate your Océ digital printing solutions into classic offset environments, making intelligent job routing to the connected production equipment very easy.

Advanced colour management and imaging technologies

The Océ PRISMAcolorworks server provides many features that ensure maximum print quality for the press. Proven, automated colour management and image enhancement tools provide accurate reproduction of colour applications. Take, for example, the powerful spot colour editing tool, which ensures spot colour reliability and consistency both within a job and between different jobs. Use spot colour variations to generate visual comparisons of fine differences. For CMYK work, the full support of ICC version 4 lets novice users achieve professional colour results due to the optimum colour conversion. Moreover, another option allows you to preserve pure colours, removing stray colours from black or pure CMY colour elements and thus improving quality and saving unnecessary colour ink consumption. In addition, automatic image improvement features such as the different handling of screenshots and image elements, and improved vignettes and text within images, increase the output significantly.

Flexible and easy to use

The CREO workflow philosophy is well known for its excellent usability due to its straightforward, self-explanatory GUI, which has evolved across many years to give optimum support to print professionals in their daily work. There are, for example, previews for many different states of the job such as the pre-RIP preview, permitting review of the file before production, but which can also be utilised for RIPed jobs in order to check that the file is once again straight, including imposition and marks, before printing it.

A powerful imposition template builder enables the operator to create customised templates and save them for future use. Integrated into the digital front-end are highly effective editing tools such as the Enfocus PitStop Edit tool that permits easy editing of jobs requiring last-minute corrections. It is possible to export ripped jobs to PDF format, thus providing a true representation of the final document before printing as a soft-proof validation. For distributed workflow control, the server also incorporates remote workspace and site manager features, enabling remote operation and control of Océ PRISMAcolorworks from multiple workstations.

Exceptional workflow productivity

The Océ PRISMAcolorworks server offers improved operational productivity by means of its unique Fusion board architecture and dataflow. This includes hot folder/virtual printer technology for ease of use through preset workflows – define a job’s settings once, then repeat it automatically (imposition, duplex printing, colour management, finishing, etc.). You additionally benefit from the ready-to-print (RTP) format that allows post-RIP adjusting of RTP files without the need to re-RIP the job, resulting in increased productivity. The parallel RIP architecture ensures highly efficient production time by deploying multiple RIP processes for a single job, or processing up to three jobs simultaneously.

Built-in JDF connectivity

The built-in JDF support means you benefit from process optimisation through intelligent, JDF-enabled automation. Because of this architecture the press can be seamlessly integrated into different stages of production for faster turnaround times and reduced labour efforts. The unique CREO Color Server Remote Job Ticket software can create a job definition format (JDF) file that contains a set of printing parameters (job ticket). This provides full support of all job parameters on 3rd party software – for example, Kodak Prinergy Workflow System or other Graphic Arts ports, perfect job integrity and speed with the ability to import TIFF, TIFF IT and Kodak Brisque files without reRIPing. Moreover you gain premium connectivity to Kodak Unified Workflow Solutions by providing integration with commercial print workflow solutions and routing of jobs between offset and digital systems. In combination with the Workflow Partnership Programme this ensures tested connectivity between Océ PRISMAcolorworks and a broad array of third-party workflow solutions.

New Océ PRISMAcolorworks front-end drives Graphics Arts workflow productivity

IPEX debut of colour workflow solution enabled by CREO Color Server Technology

Venlo, The Netherlands, 19 May 2010 – Océ, an international leader in digital document management and delivery, offers a live demonstration of Océ PRISMAcolorworks enabled by CREO Color Server Technology driving an Océ ColorStream® 10000 Flex system at the IPEX conference. Shown for the first time, the new front end option gives commercial printers easier integration into existing workflow environments such as KODAK PRINERGY Workflow System and AGFA :APOGEE. It also provides sophisticated colour management tools for graphic arts applications.

Joint strategic collaboration

Jointly developed with Kodak’s Print-On-Demand Solution Group, this addition to the Océ PRISMA® workflow suite combines CREO Color Server Technology with the reliability of Océ PRISMA architecture. Customers benefit from advanced colour management and image improvement tools for premium colour reproduction. With the CREO Color Server’s broad palette of spot colour editing tools, users can maximise the capabilities of the Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex system for highlight colour applications.

One of the most important requirements of commercial printers is consistency across their existing workflows and their production devices. Océ PRISMAcolorworks is based on the same familiar GUI as other CREO Color Servers. As a result, existing users of former CREO systems and equipment find it instinctive to operate the Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex continuous feed device.

Commercial high-performance printing in hybrid environments

“With the Océ PRISMAcolorworks server, we provide a robust solution to support hybrid workflows in the commercial print industry. It bridges the transition from high-volume offset production towards individualised on-demand digital colour production. Customers can realise greater productivity and resource utilisation by shifting production towards the most suitable equipment without changing their existing workflows. By offering another powerful workflow solution for the Océ ColorStream 10000 Flex system, we give our customers more choices to better meet their business needs,” notes Crit Driessen, Vice President, Marketing and Strategy, Océ Production Printing.

“We are proud to present, together with Océ, the successful outcome of our strategic collaboration,” comments Hezy Rotman, General Manager, Kodak’s Print On-Demand Solutions Group. “The joint solution lets graphic arts customers and print service providers benefit both from the respected CREO Color Server Technology and the Océ leadership in high-performance digital print workflows.”

Océ PRISMAcolorworks server, enabled by CREO Color Server Technology, will be demonstrated at the Océ booth (12-B150 and 12-C131), and the first customer installations will take place from early summer on.
