Océ rolls out Green Services after Pfizer success
Brentwood, Essex, 4 March 2009 — Océ UK has today launched ‘Océ Green Services’, a new development in eco-friendly management services, following the success of a pioneering project with Pfizer, one of the world’s leading pharmaceutical companies. Océ Green Services are targeted towards medium and large companies that work with Océ Business Services on long-term contracts for managed on-site document services. The main goal of Océ Green Services is to minimise the environmental impact of Océ-supplied services with a focus on energy usage.

The idea for Océ Green Services was pioneered at the UK headquarters of Pfizer, based at Walton Oaks, Surrey, where Océ provides outsourced managed services - including the mailroom and printroom.
Bron Curley, Managing Director, Océ (UK) Ltd, said: “The green story is surviving the economic downturn and, in our experience, realistic environmental cost benefits are still high on the agenda. Integrating sustainability into our offering has become one of our key priorities. We recognise our corporate duty to actively help manage our clients’ environment. Today it is essential to support our clients’ own green business goals. But Océ Green Services goes one step further and take a proactive approach to these challenges.”
“Once up and running, the energy efficiency of our ‘greener’ document service is measured periodically and is reported to the client on a quarterly basis. The Océ Green Services package also includes the option to offset the remaining carbon emissions through selected projects. In any particular operation, anything that uses power from printers, finishing equipment or right through to the computers used to run the document solutions, is under full scrutiny.”
So far, Océ Green Services is being rolled out for printroom, office fleet printers, mailroom, records management, creative services and print management. Other areas will follow.
Océ can also facilitate a suitable offsetting scheme, via strategic partner Shining Earth™, the sustainability division of environmental consultants Delta-Simons. Océ Green Services typically recommend a 150% mixed offset scheme. This means that, after energy savings have be made, the remaining energy used to power an operation is ‘carbon positive’. Océ clients who use this programme in document operations give back more to the environment than they take away.
Océ announced a long-term strategic alliance with Delta-Simons 18 months ago. The environment consultants have been working with Océ on a wide range of environmental stewardship issues in some ground-breaking initiatives. One such programme, the world-first Carbon Positive Plus+ programme, involved benchmarking the energy consumption and operational Co2 emissions of Océ VarioPrint 6000 series printing systems. Under the unique offering, Océ has committed to offsetting 200% of the CO2 generated from the operation of each of its Océ VarioPrint 6000 systems.Other green credentials from Océ include further recognition through its selection as a Climate Action industry partner. Climate Action is produced in partnership with Sustainable Development International and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
