Océ takes on a gruelling 100-kilometre walk to raise money for charity | |
Brentwood, Essex – 14 July 2008– Three teams of Océ employees aim to raise hundreds of pounds for Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust by taking part in the demanding 100-kilometre Trailwalker challenge. Over the last few months, the three teams have been vigorously training and preparing for the walk, which will take place on the 19 – 20 July.
Described as a “truly life-changing experience”, the Trailwalker is a 100-kilometre trek following the South Downs Way from Petersfield, Hampshire to Brighton, Sussex and takes in some stunning views across the English Channel and of the surrounding countryside. Although the course record is less than 10 hours, the three Océ teams have set a target of 25 hours to compete the Trailwalker. Sleeping is strictly prohibited, but drinks breaks are actively encouraged with designated areas set up for entrants to receive moral support from family and friends.
The first Trailwalker event was held more than 25 years ago by the Queen’s Gurkha Signals Regiment (QGS), in Hong Kong, and has since grown into a major fundraising event for Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust with many Trailwalkers being organised worldwide.
Steve Wilson, Business Unit Director, Production Printing said: “We have been training very hard for this event over the last few months and the task ahead of us is very daunting. However, I see it as very good opportunity to bond as a team and create some great memories along the way. Both Oxfam and the Gurkha Welfare Trust are worthwhile causes, and we are delighted to make a considerable contribution.”
