Concern for the environment has resulted in an environmental management system at the largest Océ production facility in Venlo. The system is based on ISO 14001 standard and provides for the analysis, control and reduction of environmental effects produced by industrial activities.
Emission of organic solvent vapours contributes to the formation of photo-chemical smog and constitutes a public health hazard. Océ has greatly reduced emissions of these substances at its facilities in Venlo by optimising manufacturing processes and switching to new manufacturing
techniques. By 1995, Océ had already realised the target set by the government for the year 2000. As a result, Océ is now in the process of defining a more rigorous target
