Oliver, Product Manager

Hi, my name is Oliver and I currently work within the Marketing Department as UK Product Manager for a portfolio of wide format products. The role is exceptionally varied and involves a wide range of activities from launching new products to market, developing marketing campaigns, positioning product price points and designing promotions for our channel partners, to organising events. My responsibilities are simple, maximise sales and ensure my product budgets are achieved.

The Product Management role is incredibly varied which helps make every day different and interesting. It is a reactive role which requires you to constantly adapt to the market, economic challenges and competition. I also enjoy the creative elements of the job, working out methods to overcome challenges and obstacles which are preventing sales of my product portfolio. Product Management really places you at the heart of the business, you are required to be a specialist in your market area but also to look at the longevity of the wider business and to implement strategies that are going to benefit the company in the long term.

I find the role very rewarding, as you can directly see the results from the strategies you implement. It's incredible when you have spike in sales because of a campaign you have launched or promotion you have implemented.

How did I end up as a UK Product Manager? Following university I looked for a role that would allow me to implement the analytical skills I had developed whilst studying a History degree, and a role that would put me at the centre of a business. Having also worked in Tokyo I was also keen to work for a multi-national organisation that would offer the opportunities to work abroad later in my career. I joined Océ initially as a Marketing Assistant and within 6 months I was promoted to a Project Manager role before a second promotion a year later to a Product Manager. Naturally these promotions came with both financial benefits and increased responsibility. Océ really is a company that rewards you if you work hard and you are enthusiastic about what you do. The company is also prepared to support its staff with developing their careers and Océ has supported me to complete my CIM qualification.

Danny, Field Sales Manager

Hi, I’m Danny, one of the Field Sales Managers within the Document Printing Business Unit.

When I left school I knew that I wanted the challenge of working for a global organisation, so I applied for and was accepted on an Apprenticeship Scheme at Océ (UK) Ltd.

The Apprenticeship Scheme provided me with exposure to various departments, including Training, IT and Credit Control. Once my Apprenticeship was completed I was offered a permanent position within the Finance department and accepted!

After 2 years working in the Finance Department, I spent some time working in Contracts Administration and it was during my time there that I worked with our sales force and realised that sales was what I wanted to do. Océ supported me in my interest to move in to sales, and guided me in to a customer training / sales trainee role. This role gave me the invaluable opportunity to gain direct experience with our external customers. I found my place and knew that Sales was right for me. I progressed my way through the Sales team from a Sales Executive to Field Sales Manager. I enjoy my job and I think I have been fairly successful - achieving budget all but twice since I’ve worked in sales and the most recognised and rewarding Océ incentive available.

My role as a Field Sales Manager involves the day to day running of existing Océ customers within my area as well as winning new business for Océ. My area covers Local Government within Essex, Kent, East Sussex and SE London. I have access to sell the entire Document Printing range of equipment that starts from low volume multi-functional devices to high end production mono and colour. With the vast Océ range of equipment, it means that on a day to day basis the activity is always different as this may be due to the customers requirements or in fact the customer themselves. This truly means that you never get bored, everyday is different and each day you learn something new.

As you can see from my history, Océ encouraged me and supported me through the right training and guidance to fulfil my potential. Océ allowed me to identify my career path and supported me in following it! I have seen the organisation go through many changes over the past 19 years and throughout that time I have always felt valued by the company.

Jenny, Credit Administration Officer

I’m Jenny and I work as a Credit Administration Officer within Credit Control Department.

My job is to answer customer queries related to invoicing, be it that their contracts have changed, their purchase orders require updating, the customer has a new address or changed their name etc. I also deal with any price increases to the customers equipment, as well as going out and visiting customers to go through their accounts and discuss / resolve any queries.

I enjoy my work because I get a lot of satisfaction from resolving any problems that the customer is experiencing visiting the customer to build up a relationship to ensure the account run smoothly in the future.  Most of my customers on the Commercial Ledger I have built up a relationship with as I have been dealing with them for at least 10 of the 14 years I have been here, as well as getting on very well with the Service Team and the Sales Team. I work with a team of 3 other persons (Credit Controllers) dealing with all aspects of Commercial Printing.

I just love the friendly people that I work with, I don't think you can find that in many other places !!

Nick, Regional Account Manager

My name is Nick and I’ve been working for Océ for just over a year now. I work on the small format supplies team which deals with supplying paper for our machines, as well as rival machines, to schools and businesses up and down the country.

Before I started at Océ I had never worked in a sales environment, but my manager saw potential within me, and after receiving plenty of support and training, I went from a Telesales Person to a Regional Account Manager looking after my own region, all within the space of 14 months.

My role as a Regional Account Manager means that I look after 300 accounts within a specific geographical region, that I maintain contact with on a regular basis. As well as making sure these accounts are well looked after and are happy with the products, I also have to bring in new business from both existing and new businesses.

I enjoy my role at Océ because of the challenges it presents. Everyday I am trying to improve, maintain and grow my region and have targets to reach each month that spur me on. In spite of this, the targets we are set to achieve are not impossible and although hard work is needed to achieve these results, the feeling I get at the end of the month when I see my final results makes it worthwhile. Also, we get incentive bonuses for exciding our targets, which motivates you that bit further. Never a bad thing in my opinion!

Tom, Training Manager

Hi, I’m Tom and for the last 14 years I have worked for Océ.  I joined the company in 1995 as a Service Trainer, having engineering and teaching experience.  Within 6 months I had helped launch a new technical tool into the service group called a "laptop" and using something known then as "e-mail".  These ideas apparently stuck with us and I have been involved in the training & development programmes at Océ ever since.  I have been a trainer in Service, IT, sales, and management.  Since 1998 I’ve been a manager of training in some form or other, Service, Consultancy, E-learning, and now Training Manager for the UK operating company.

I’ve had plenty of opportunities to grow and enhance my skills with Océ, including the ex-pat assignment that I am currently serving here in the UK.  I enjoy the experience of working for a global company on far-reaching international projects.  I have colleagues in several countries and continue to make more connections and friends each month. Working with Océ has expanded my knowledge of the intricacies of the corporate environment and has let me see much of the world. It has been an excellent chance to learn and develop.
